Frequently Asked Questions & Consumer information

Please do not hesitate in contacting us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Reaching out for help can be difficult. We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation.  This is to ensure your concerns are within the scope of our expertise.  This also helps us determine if we are a good fit for one-another. If we are not a good fit we can provide additional referrals.  Good rapport is essential during the therapeutic process.

Our first session is our longest and considered very important. Our first objective is to gain a full understanding our clients through different questions. You will be asked about previous therapy and treatment history, your childhood, personal relationships, current symptomology, and goals for therapy. Different research based diagnostic measures will also be completed at this time. Together we will decide which therapy modality is best fit and develop a treatment plan.

Along with the above, it's also important to: Discuss topics such as informed consent, payment, ethical concerns, and the therapeutic relationship. You can think of our first session as the pre-work done before planting a garden.

We recommend you utilize a journal (physical or digital) as a place to jot down questions or thoughts you have between sessions as well as reflections after session. In EMDR, this is an essential part of the process.  While we have water available; we also recommend you bring a water bottle.

Counseling is most effective if we meet weekly to reach your goals. Once you feel better we may move to bi-weekly sessions. Many clients find monthly maintenance sessions beneficial to discuss general worries and stressors, as well as being reminded and enforce good habits and positive coping skills.

The answer to this differs depending on your needs. Some clients who need brief therapy are seen between 4-6 sessions while others may need a 6-12 session treatment plan. The length is driven by your therapy goals.

Mind Garden Therapy accepts self-pay only at this time.  Payments include cash, debit/credit, HSA, and FSA cards. Mind Garden uses a HIPPA Compliant payment processor for card transactions. We are in the process of accepting insurance.

Attending your therapy sessions as scheduled is very important, as it will help you meet your therapeutic goals.  Your appointment is exclusively reserved for you, therefore, a specific time is blocked for you on the booking calendar. Cancelations and re-scheduled sessions, as well as missed sessions, will be subject to a full charge if a 24-hour in-advance notice wasn’t received.
