PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Monica Cortez(She/Her/Ella) graduated with a M.A. in Psychology in 2013. She was in education for 7 years; becoming a Certified School Counselor in 2017. She later became a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in 2021 and an independent Licensed Professional Counselor in 2024.

In 2022, she began her passion of individual counseling at Amarillo College as a Mental Health Counselor. There she provided individual therapy, conducted Mental Health First Aid training, and lead Group Therapy.

In addition, she served as a Volunteer for the LOSS team of Amarillo providing on-call services for families when a loved one dies by suicide. 


Monica is proud to be fluent in Spanish and of her Mexican roots. In 2022,  she became employed by The Wesley Community Center in “El Barrio de Amarillo” as the Mental Health Director. There she provided Play Therapy,  Support Groups, and Individual Therapy.


She currently serves as a Mental Wellness Specialist for Head Start at Region 16. There she provides Mental Health Consultation to families, teachers, and staff; expanding her knowledge and expertise with children ages 0-5.

  • Develop a center that provides diverse therapeutic services and support groups
  • Become a founder to  a non-profit that provides services to low-income families
  • Extend services to surrounding underserved rural areas
  • Advocate and Educate for Mental Health Awareness
